Only a few weeks ago, I made my first visit to Universal Studios! (We didn’t get around to Disney, but we’re saving that for next time). We went over a Monday-Tuesday so the crowds were really light, plus it threatened to rain on Tuesday. It didn’t, but that didn’t really encourage a lot of people to come out. The only time I got wet was on the Jurassic Park ride.

Now anyone that knows anything about me, knows that I like comics so you can bet that I was enjoying all of the fun, geeky stuff to be had at Universal. I’m pretty sure I spent an hour at the comic shop, knowing full well there are several comic stores in my neck of the woods, like LWOW, but yeah, a good 60 minutes and even bought a few things. No need to fret for the Mrs. She was busy shopping too.

I only really came on as a Harry Potter reader in the last few years or so, not really starting the books until after the Half-blood prince movie came out, but I really dug Hog’s Meade. They did a fantastic job on it and they had Cauldron Cakes! Fantastic. The HP ride was pretty fun too, though all-in-all I have to say that the smoothest ride was the Simpsons. The Men In Black ride was okay, but I liked it because I racked up more points than anyone else present. Pew pew pew!!

Anime Milwaukee 2012

Guests backstage of Opening Ceremonies: Little Kuriboh, Doug Walker, Uncle Yo, Trevor Mueller, Alan Evans (me!)

Anime Milwaukee is in it’s fifth year (not counting that pesky snowstorm year) and has continued to grow in leaps and bounds. I mean, I remember 3 years ago setting up a table in the hallway of the Student Union of UW-Milwaukee. Ah, how things change. Now, thanks to a great staff lead by Rachel, Con Mom Debbie, Jennifer and a host of awesome volunteers (you know who you are!!) the show is at the biggest venue that Milwaukee has to offer, the Frontier Center, formerly host to Wizard of The Coast’s Gen Con. I don’t know if the final numbers are but they were thinking over 3,000 attendees which is a significant jump from last year.

No surprise, I had a great time not only showing off my work, but meeting new people and saying HI to old friends. It’s not too hard to remember people that come by your table year after year, attend your panels and share their wonderful personality with you. *Those* are the sort of people that come to Anime Milwaukee. And being a guest, and subject to the wonderful hospitality of Anime Milwaukee will clearly make any weekend. Last year, I didn’t get to mingle with Uncle Yo and Doug Walker, but I got to this year! And they’re as hilarious  and cool ‘off-stage’ as they are on-stage. I don’t think they’ll mind me saying so, but Doug’s family in attendance (parents, brother, sister-in-law) were extremely cool. I mean, I got to talk ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair with his Mom! Wrestling and comics! Plus, Uncle Yo is never un-funny. Goose egg in the groan department, and he’s a big table top gamer and I desperately wanted to go to one of his many panels on RPG.

Obviously, I’m already looking forward to next year, but I really hope I get to see some of these fine faces at some of the other shows I’ll be attending, including Anime Central and Otakon.

Now I want to know what Rob (right) is discussing. That's me waaaaay in the back.

Awesome people!!!!!!

And now it's sleepy time. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

This weekend, February 17-19, I will be a guest of the always fun and ever-growing Anime Milwaukee! They are expanding and they are taking over the Downtown Hyatt AND Frontier Center! Trevor Mueller will be there as well and we’ll be hosting a Making Webcomics panel on Sunday morning. Friday night, you can catch us, along with the rest of the guests at Opening Ceremonies and then immediately following that, I’ll be hosting a Rival Angels Panel! W00t! You think I can talk for an hour on Rival Angels? lol

So if you’re in the area, please come by and say Hi! I’ll also have books, prints, posters and that sweet Dreamer collaboration with Lora Innes, A Providential Hello as well as commissions. Can you dig it?
