It’s good to have friends, eh? It is if you’re a member of Damage Inc!
Vote to see what’s coming up on Wednesday!
Okay, a bit of Dirty pool by Sun and Damage Inc, but I’m not going to harp on it too hard until Nikki and Kyra put their hands on Xtina. Like a couple weeks ago when Abyss beat Brian Kendrick by positioning himself so that the Ref was between he and Kendrick, who was perched on the top rope. Abyss didn’t touch the ref, but he used what was there to his advantage. Can’t fault a person for that. So far, all Kyra and Nikki have done is remind Xinta that they’re there, still they’re skirting the edge of what I call “Fair”
Pulling Sun to the rope isn’t reminding, it’s direct interference. The wall they put up for Sun wasn’t too bad but they’re actively running interference. Again, it’s going to be great to read the justifications.
I think Sun could’ve done just fine without the interference in both cases, and Damage Inc’s involvement is just going to minimize the impact of Sun’s win when she finally puts Xtina down.
Which is why I think she’s going to object to it later. Someone to watch her back is one thing but she’s always struck me as preferring to stand on her own two feet.
i’m commenting on a rival angels page for the first time to say
what’s a coolkid doing on this webcomic
don’t try telling me it’s research bro
It’s all about the irony. Alternately, it could be something to do with time loop stability. Time loop stability is tricky.
Punching is legal? Since when? I mean you never really see someone get a DQ for it but the ref is always in there telling them to cut it out and reminding them that closed fist punches are against the rules . . .
The last time I checked the book, strikes are by forearm, thigh, open hand and flat of foot. But it’s not enforced; no one’s been DQ’d because of it or forced to break, other than getting a mount. But then the mount goes on a while. The few times I’ve been mounted it seemed to go on and on and on!
Well said, Champ! So….you’re not going to be using punches with Bitsy? *ducks* lol
well i suppose technically it’s the “closed fist” and not the actual punch that’s illegal but Xtina’s showing the defintie power edge that she has in this match. now if Xtina didn;t take time to pose in panel 3 and stay on Sun then the rest of Damage Inc wouldn’t have had time to “accidently” wander in between them like they did. Xtina is much showier in this match than she was against Brina i must say.
but no mention of Xtina’s BLATANT chokehold in panel 2 to distract from her punch to the gut. Jeff should’ve picked up on that. Though Dawn’s right in the last panel though as the ol saying “if you can;t bring the grappler to the ropes, bring the ropes to the grappler” proved her point earlier.
based on the VI i’m thinking Xtina is going to get caught as she tries to re-enter the ring with Sun already slipping in beforehand.
as figure.. Sun can’t win.. that why she went do heel assist..
it’s good to have friends, it is if you’re a member of Damage Inc..
I remember they say something like that.. to Sun.. as they’re watching York Twins matches..
can you used it on Hell’s Belles too?
good to have friends, it is if you’re a member of Hell’s Belles?
I lurve Sun, I do, but the longer this match goes on, the less I can respect her as a competitor. Dirty pool Sun, I thought you would be better than that.
Xtina maybe a terrific cow in person, but at least she doesn’t rely on a three on one mechanic to carry her through her matches.
Closed fist to the head – definitely illegal. Closed fist to the body is supposed to be, but some blind-eye refs may let it slide…
Donny, Damage Inc likes to be creative with their numbers at ringside. The old adage of ‘strength in numbers,’ only works if you use it. But, it really is okay to still like Sun despite her radical interpretation of the rules.
Picky, I think it’s great! People like who they want to like. I mean, people cheered Randy Orton after it was found out that he hits his wife. I suppose the ‘justification’ is that they are cheering the man, not the act.
Dragon Man, I think Sun would easily offer up that she doesn’t need any help, but why go all out on someone like Xtina. lolz Sun’s main focus is on the W in the win column.
Redwulf, this is not WWF/WCW, this is more like UFC in that punching is okay. Really, punching goes on so much in pro wrestling, it is kind of silly for them to call it, but not enforce it. It certainly adds an increased element…!
jpiv, believe me that Xtina had plans to be showier in her match with Sabrina, until Ultragirl redlined the personal aspect. So, that’s another thing that Xtina is holding against Sabrina. XD Xtina is reveling in her height (and weight) advantage over Sun, and buoyed confidence because of her upcoming TV title shot.
MGC, I thought you liked heels? Or maybe you just prefer the stories villains? Hell’s Belles are the haters of the universe. They have no friends. XD Actually, do you think Jen and Chloe are friends?
Hey Golden Girl! I hear your concerns and this probably won’t help, but sometimes despite the biggest warnings we give ourselves, we can’t help but root for the bad girl.
I don’t even think Chloe and Katherine are friends..
Chloe is more villain than Yvonne. Yvonne is like a neutral villian, she can allied in face/heel..
while Chloe backstabs everyone.. hehehe
Chloe and Katherine are friends…but they might sell each other out. Chloe let Jennifer join Hell’s Belles on Kat’s account. Chloe is the Red Skull of Rival Angels.
Did you listen to the podcast that I co-hosted? Lora talks about a NEW wrestler coming to Rival Angels in season 2.
Ninja’d by Dyna!
In Rival Angels, we let punching go. It’s not wrestling per se, definitely more MMA than wrestling, but can you imagine pro wrestling without punching? It’d be like not being able to go off the top rope!
old NWA used to have that rule- going off the top rope was a DQ, throwing someone over the top rope (except in battle royals) i think was a DQ too. i remember reading how Superfly Snuka never won a match during a short stint in the NWA way back because he always got DQed for doing the Superfly Dive off the top rope. yes i’m old
There are reasons pro wrestling says its not legal, mostly because there has to be a structure of a controlled grappling contest here. Beyond kayfabe, it also gives the heels something dirty to do to get the crowd against them and to prevent the face from just decking them back. This is why they have No DQ matches… after punching, two-handed chokes and eye gouging what else would be left?
And its not like we’ve not seen punches before here gang… remember Monica clocking Brooke in their match? Little girl laid on one.
Yep, jpiv, the old NWA under Bill Watts had that rule and it kinda stunk. They’d get the ref to look away to do a finisher. I also remember some silly AWA rule that said you couldn’t preform a double team move from the top rope, so teams would *push* their opponent off their knee, for example before the other member hit. I started really following wrestling in 1986. XD
Dyna, it was a thought out decision. I mean, it’s wrestling, not MMA. There shouldn’t be punching in wrestling, right? But then, what would Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan and the Rock do? I think we all are on the same page as far as punches go. I really can’t think of anyone railing against them to the point of exclusion. Hmmmm….should we outlaw punching in Rival Angels?
What? Unfair advantage? They haven’t touched her yet. They’re doing what any good stablemates would do and making sure their stablemate has a chance to get back in the ring to avoid being counted out while not getting physical so as to not get her disqualified. Now, what happens after the match doesn’t really matter. You know, cause the match would be over. I mean seriously, how exactly does it give Sun an unfair advantage when she can barely move right now? I’m not being a hypocrite, either. Dawn’s logic just baffles me right now.
Sun shouldn’t need any help to finish off this clown. Go get her, Sun!
Tarrasque, I like to think we’re a little bit in ‘opposite world,’ where long time readers are agreeing with Jeff instead of Dawn. Honestly, I think the word ‘fair’ ought to be rewritten.
Trevor, I think she will take your advice, as evidenced by the Voting Incentive! XD
i don’t think Sun need damamge Inc at either time they been around. she clearly was close enough to make the ropes herself back then and even if they didn’t stand in front of Xtina she would have made it inside after all Xtina’s taunting. it clearly think they should abck off and Sun will handle ehr on her own. Xtina being too cocky and that breeds mistakes
also further note Sun never needed someone to help her in past matchs with people bigger then Xtina as seen in her flash backs. she clearly not gonna be happy after the match but she will show she not second fiddle to sabrina either
Yeah, boss. You can expect to see some fists and feet between Blackwidow and me. That’s just the way of it. And besides she’s got a juicy belly hehee But she’ll start it. Not me. That’s because I can out wrestle her. And she knows it.
Great to see you back, Jenn!
Boss, even if closed fist punches to the head were made illegal, you know they’d still fly, but that result in a warning the first – maybe second time.
However, that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a rule of some kind. Even MMA has limits on strikes etc.
I’m confused (ok, not really a big surprise…) – I thought Sun was a super wrestler, but Xtina is mopping the ring with her! So, it must be that Xtina is much better than I thought. A very clever ploy on her part, but I don’t think that she can beat Sun in the long run, whether or not the DInc’s are ring side…
By the way, your art is always great – like Xtina’s smug look in panel 3. Thanks again for all your hard work!
Dawn Hun you cant really gripe about it untill they actually hit Xtina i mean all they did was Buy Sun some time to catch her breath and get back inthe ring if Xtina had some “friends” and i use that term loosely adn SUn was the one putting the hurt on Xtina im sure they would do alot more then just stand in the way but DAmage Inc. is showing alot of rrestraint thus far so give credit were credit is due
Good one. So far, you’re keeping the ending uncertain, and that’s the way it should be.
well in Dawn’s defense- by standing in the way Xtina can;t followup on her attack on Sun. Neither side is touching each other either since-though off camera- with both wrestlers outside the ring there’s no way even a wrestling ref isn;t going to be looking right at them- which is why Damage Inc isn;t touching Xtina to avoid Sun’s getting DQd. so they’re interfering but in a way that’s technically legal.
And on the other side, if Albone’s using the rules where if Xtina starts attacking them and they fight back the ref won’t DQ Sun since Damage inc is defending themselves (unless of course the storyline calls for the DQ- it’s one of those sometimes yes/sometimes no deals depending on the situation). which also opens Xtina up to just what sort of trouble she wants to get into byt giving Damage Inc a chance for a free shot or three.
Hey Jenn! Always great to see you. I think I saw you backstage, eh? XD I think you can appreciate Sun’s sentiment, “It’s not how you play the game, it’s whether you win or lose.” Excellent recollection about Sun and her earlier career. She cut her teeth on being a scrappy fighter and even became the champion of her federation.
You know, Champ, I believe I overheard Widow saying, “I’ll throw the first punch…and the last.” O_o
Dyna, just like MMA, there are some limits on strikes here too. Remember when Xtina was warned for her rabbit punch on Sabrina?
GhostEraser, you are much less confused than you think. Sun IS a super wrestler. She’s an outstanding rookie who won the championship in developmental. But Xtina is veteran who also is an outstanding wrestler, even challenging Brenda for the title. Plus, you’re familiar with wrestlers experiencing good/bad runs in a match. This could be one of them. Thanks, glad you are digging the art.
Comichero, you make a pragmatic point, but Dawn’s gripe is towards the spirit of the rules. Damage Inc aren’t supposed to be felt at ringside, physically or otherwise. Realistically, there shouldn’t be anyone else at ringside, but you know, Yvonne wouldn’t hear of it.
Right on, Darkmark!
jpiv, that is a very interesting thought. Will this match turn into a Xtina vs Damage Inc style feud? If it’s not already planned, I can happily say that I like that idea. XD I mean, Nikki vs Xtina would be a pretty sweet tech vs tech match…but I digress. I have to admit this is a lot of fun…normally people are with Dawn and against Jeff, but it’s all bizzaroy with Sun vs Xtina! lol
I’m not down with current wrestling trends so I can’t comment on all that. What I can comment on is the storytelling, and I hope you’re down with that.
Giving her opponent the slip as they say. It’s not like D-Inc is actually interfering with the match, they just wanted standing room only ring side floor seats
Boss? You know that old joke about Russian and the US being in a race? There was only the two countries in it. After the race the Russian media reported they came in second. The US of A came in next to last. Well it’s like that with the Widow. She probably did say she’d throw the first strike – and the last. But the R-dang-Truth is her first would be her last LoL
Damage inc are interferring but it’s nothing you can call them on especially when Xitna is using under handed tactics as well. If the other person cheats than it is fully justified in using dirty tactics. AKA I really really want to see someone sneak attack Cloe De Sade and put her in the hospital permanently.
Darkmark, I can dig that. XD
LOL Kurt! Yvonne and Damage Inc only do the very best seating.
Champ, that is a wonderful analogy and I love your own spin on it.
Tiffany, you can bet that Sabrina will have her sights set on putting Chloe down for a long time. Of course, Chloe will be looking to do the same to Sabrina!
But unlike Brina Chloe has NO talent what so ever her reputation is way over blown at least from what we’ve seen.
Nice post , I really hope how to make my weblog this topical !
