Sun took a beating on this page and just when it looks like Josephine is about to put Sun away, Yvonne and Damage Inc. spring into action. But what’s the plan? Kyra and Nikki are pounding Franchesca, Yvonne is distracting the referee, and Josie has noticed her sister getting a beating. The longer that Josephine doesn’t put Sun away, the longer Sun has a chance to counter this move, which could be part of ‘the plan.’ Further developments on Wednesday!
I went to the SHIMMER show last night and I will have pictures following sometime during the week. 🙂
And Jeff, even as a pro-heel commentator, gets it completely wrong. They are most certainly NOT beating up the wrong York. Look at Josie’s reaction. That’s deliberate. She might be a bad gal, but she loves her sister. And so she’s distracted and hesitating. I don’t think that evil look in Sun’s eyes is a trick of the light either.
THIS would be a beautiful time for a Muta-style misting. That’s when it’s most effective, catching them right when they think they have you, and in such a position that the ref is more believably likely to miss it. My two bits here… I think it’s pretty clear Sun’s going to get out of this, I’m just speculating on details.
I like smart heeling. THIS is smart heeling. Picking your moment and making it count, with it being abundantly clear afterwards that the opposition got outfoxed. Definitely different style than the Hell’s Belles, who are more about showing dominance/crushing those who would oppose them. This is crafty, Horsemen style heeling. Bravo.

Was good seeing you at Shimmer, was quite the show, wasn’t it? I knew to expect good stuff from the Shimmer DVDs I have, but there’s nothing quite like the live show, is there? Hehe. That match between Del Rey and Hamada was spectacular.

Note Sun got into trouble when she slowed down. Ninjas require speed to work efficiently and she just doesn’t have that right now. Sun can’t fight girls who are larger and stronger than she is on anything approaching even terms. Something to remember for the inevitable Sun- Sabrina grudge match…
Jeff is so shocked at what’s happening he’s forgetting to be Jeff. Dawn is trying to pick up the slack, notice how she emphasizes the obvious from the dominant wrestler’s perspective. Dawn’s comment in panel three is more Jeff- ish.

i’m thinking along with MGC, Sun’s gonna get a ton of momentum behind her from that height when she reverses that brainbuster attempt into a huge spike DDT. I think Josephine’s going to do an RVD-esque headstand on the impact for that one.
Dawn channelling her inner J.R. in panel 3 is a nice touch.

the simple is that DDT.. more like a jumping DDT.. another type is shiranui.. jumping then to reverse DDT.. I like to see Sun executed a shiranui.. suits her better..
Sun can use that momentum, then quickly executed a double knee backbreaker. or maybe a double knee facebreaker.. with SUn’s agility those moves are possible.

Adon, it does me good to hear that you appreciate ‘smart heeling.’ It was kind of hard not so spill the beans before about Damage Inc’s master plan in the face of their inaction, so I’m glad it paid off. As for misting, I think we gottas see it again, right? XD The thing with Jeff too is that he’s so flabbergasted about what’s going on, he’s sort of forgetting himself.

Chris, it was great meeting you at the SHIMMER show. Glad you survived the Hamada/Del Ray match. I was brave enough for a few closeups. XD We’re at a critical point here in the match, where it can go either way, but Sun’s got the surprise advantage.
MGC, I think it’s hilarious that you laugh at Josie’s ‘Frannie!’ LOL So, glad you enjoyed it again. The York sisters are talented so even though we haven’t always seen them succeed, they are good. Maybe we’ll see them take control of this yet? If Sun pulls off a counter, she can pull off any of those move you suggested given her agility. Fran’s just unlucky, which is why she’s usually getting the short end of the stick.
Adam, that is a plausible plan of action for our Damagers. More to be revealed on Wednesday.
RDF, you have correctly identified some of Sun’s weaknesses. Compound that fact that she’s been effectively double teamed most of the match too. And as you say, something to consider if/when Sun and Sabrina lock horns. And good catch with Jeff. As you might expect, watch for Jeff to get back to being ‘Jeff.’ 😉

jpiv, that was nicely said about quality over quantity. Give the Yorks credit for making a plan and sticking to it, despite what Yvonne would come up with. Good catch with panel 3. 😉 And as for Sun, just what is she planning….?

Thanks darkmark! So, who do you see as the heroine in this exchange? Or is there one? Honestly, I had a problem with trying to figure that out myself and actually, there’s a bit of that in the upcoming matches as well, though the lines are a little better defined in those.
Sun’s getting the snot kicked out of her, but it looks like the rest of Damage Inc has come in for the rescue – to put those York Sisters in their place by kicking their very fine pa-toots!
About damn time Damage Inc came in and helped their girl. This is pretty much a heel on heel match; whoever gets the smoothest cheating in will win. So Josephine is distracted and then Sun gets the advantage back? This could be good
The switch was quality cheating the assault is a quantitative advantage. Both situations/actions/plans were good.
I still want the Yorks to win but Lamage Inc (c’mon, the name is crappy and all too common) will pull this one out.
I’m not convinced about this being heel vs heel. Sun is cheating, but in all other regards she’s carrying the role of face and the crowd must surely be behind her compared to the Yorks. I love that this is going past the dynamic of ‘heels cheat and faces don’t’. The next step of course being to have a heel who doesn’t cheat, which is something I particularly like to see in real world promotions. My main e-fedding character absolutely refuses to cheat no matter what her alignment. My tag team, on the other hand, turned face within a few months of their debut basically BECAUSE people enjoyed their blatant, theatrical cheating so much.
I absolutely LOVE Sun in the last panel, you knocked it out the park. Oh and knee to the gut plus chair to the back? Ouch. Sun may not be the only one about to spew something!
See? SEE? It was all in the plan. And the execution is flawless. All that’s left is to see if Sun is capable of doing her part still. She’s tough though and, shades of Jerry Lawler taking a beating to lure someone else into reach, I can see Sun still having a lot more gas in her tank than anyone things.
Of course, the question is, what does she do from up there? With a wrestler of her style, a lot. Tornado DDT anyone? She’s WAY up there and twist of the body as she drops would be as good as launching from the ropes. What about arching and coming down to turn this into a neckbreaker/reverse cutter. Someone did mention a Rude Awakening a few pages back, after all. With the lucha influences I’ve seen at times, an acrobatic little twist and twirl into some sort of roll up wouldn’t even be out of the question, but that’s not going to have the payback Sun will want for enduring the beating.
And that’s just if Sun moves before Josie just drops her and runs to help her sister.
I see Sun as the heroine in this one. A conflicted heroine, but a heroine nonetheless. Sue me.
that’s the one salazen- i couldn’t remember if it was a spike DDT or tornado DDT from that type of position, so i conviently called it neither in my earlier post. 🙂

Ken, I think that’s the plan but knowing Yvonne, she orchestrated this moment for maximum potential, leaving it up to Sun to react. Can Sun make a move? Or does Josie drop Sun to go help her sister?
Picky, that is well put! Yvonne would be pleased that you appreciate her plan, but then put you on the list of those that ‘know too much.’ XD
stygimoloch, I think technically it’s heel vs heel by association if nothing else, but the crowd has been squarely behind Sun so that sort of transitions her back to the face crowd. It’s a gray area. 😛 A heel that doesn’t cheat? I would guess that they’d get that heel heat by being obnoxious to the crowd or something. That’s usually the best way. You should post about your team on the forums sometime. I’m sure the members would get a kick out of them. That’s awesome that you liked the last panel. I played it up a bit, but it’s Sun, so it’s all good. XD And yeah, Fran is getting an ass whipping!
Hey Salazen! You said it perfectly, the plan has been executed and it’s up to Sun to do her part. It’s possible that Josie might abandon her attack on Sun to help her sister and that would give Sun an opening. Of course, the mid-air counter is more fun to think about. XD If a counter is coming, I’d shoot for a mid-air twist or something like that too. Maybe something we’ve already seen from her? 😉
Right on, Darkmark. I think in a heel/heel match you can still have a heroine and villain. After all, the crowd is behind Sun in this one.
Unfortunately, my net won’t let me do anything which involves an account for some reason. I’ve been trying to fix it over the last week or so, and I’m making slow but fairly steady progress. Once it’s working properly again, I’ll join the forum 🙂
My thing with heels and faces is largely this. In any match, one person will be more hated than the other, or more loved than the other. The crowd don’t have to be unanimous to be into the match. Suppose Sabrina fought Monica Rumble; they’re both faces, but there’s that tension between them which means that you’d likely be leaning towards whomever you think is more in the right. In the context of this match, Sun is the face; if she fought Brooke, she’d probably be the face there too. But if she fought Sabrina, Xtina or Monica, she’d probably be the heel. I suppose that makes her a tweener, although that’s not really what I’m trying to get at. Or maybe it is. Maybe there’s no such thing as faces or heels, just degrees of tweener! XD
As far as non-cheating heels go, my view is that if you have a good enough antagonistic personality, you shouldn’t have to cheat to get the crowd to hate you. Which carries the bonus that when a cowardly or sadistic heel cheats, it means more, because you’re not having cheating (or an attempt at cheating) in every other damn match.
Does anyone remember Sean O’Haire’s devil’s advocate gimmick from about six years ago? “I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know.” I absolutely LOVED that. The charcoal suit, the evil grin and unkempt hair, the smarmy smile, the friendly yet insidious voice. It was played to perfection in that even if you already did agree with his viewpoints, you still felt a little dirty for agreeing with such a slimy weasel. But WWE killed it by having him be cowardly and cheat, which utterly devalues the fact that he was challenging people’s preconceptions of right and wrong. It made it too easy to go ‘he’s the bad guy’ when the gimmick was about exactly the opposite.
