And so we get a look into Sun’s home life as a teenager. Messy room, single Mom and minimum wage job at the ice cream parlor. And, we can’t overlook the usual humor and love for wrestling that we’ve come to know. As we’re about to find out, Sun’s life is about to change forever.
Big thanks to Justin Riley for this story. Originally, it wasn’t going to be seen for a while. I have an ending to the current Rival Angels storyline, which I affectionately refer to as ‘Season 1.’ I know how Season 2 is going to start but I wanted a break inbetween seasons. So, I asked Justin, ‘I’d really love for you to write a Sun origin story to keep people coming back during the break.’ I sweetened the deal with fast food and the promise that there would be more where that came from. He accepted and wrote a really great story. So great, and the love of Sun so strong in reader-dom, that I had to add it to the current storyline. Sun’s not a bit player and you, the readers, know it. With what we have in store for Sun coming up, now was a great time to see our ‘Lil Dragon’s’ humble beginnings.

ah? Sun hair is different, there’s slightly brown not like in Rival Angels (Present) there’s blue. and VCR? ah? waa they stil used VCR!
and Sun’s mom is speaks well, I mean that Sun’s mom didn’t used combine languange when communicating with Sun.
Panel 5: I have to question here, for specific information.. “Why no officier, I didn’t steal steal this VCR. I’m Asian. I made it”
She didn’t specify what part of asia? I mean what country.

@MGC: She’s just playing the asian stereotype. You know, the one that asians are usually smarter than Americans. It doesn’t matter whether you’re Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thais, etc. the stereotype is that “Asians are smart”.
by her surname, I guess Sun’s from Guangzhou, Hong Kong or Macau? coz of her surname. but even though, her great-great-grand parents are either in those three country. Â
I kinda get confuse though.. specially in her origin. I don’t know if Sun Wong chinese name, I mean written in kanji, is the same as her name. “Sun” or it’s already her english name. Sun.

even though, it’s wrote in the same Kanji. Mandarin, Fukien, Canton speak in different ways..
and also Sun used the term ninja.. ‘Ninja’/Shinobi are japanese.

I couldn’t quite tell from the imagery in the comic, but is Sun’s mother Asian too? Or is Sun just half-asian? In any case, Mom has an interesting dye job on her hair.
I couldn’t make out what was on the screen, but the narration sounds like it might be from a Hardy Boyz match. It seems though that Sun liked the flying style even before she got started.
Nice Buffy pic. I’d like to think it’s a nod to me. if isn’t, whatever. i know it’s a good ol’ Jamie nod and no amount of you denying it can silence the fact.
It does sound like a Hadry match. Anyone in particular? It even looks and sound like a bad cable reception… like she was able to get a staticky ppv or something.
Oh, and I bet Choco-dip is another nod to me. Man, you are all about the Jamie love today.
Hey MGC! Good catch with the poster in the background. It’s not Vega, but Fade from Workshed Studio! XD Yep, Sun’s hair is a bit different, I thought I could try something else with her hair and chalk it up to her own evolution. Remember that its six years ago and from the looks of things, the Wongs aren’t rolling in money. Sun’s mom doesn’t speak Chinese, Korean or Japanese, the three ethnicities that Sun has. It should be stated that Sun is a third generation American.

Hey Zodo! Yeah, we’ll see more of Sun and her mom’s relationship going forward. Sun’s mom is definitely not Asian, and Sun is a third generation american. As for who’s on the wrestling tape, that will be revealed shortly. Good call with Sun digging high flyers!
Jamie, of course the Buffy pic and Choco-Dip are nods to you. Why wouldn’t they? The tape that Sun is watching is badly worn from the repeated viewings. More on the details in a bit.
I love it! Now I’m going out on a limb here, but I’m gonna guess she gets in a fight when someone tries to rip off the VCR. She doesn’t care about the machine so much as that her tape’s in it. She does a flying arm bar number and a customer happens to be a scout.
(Hey the scout could have been me. But I don’t eat ice cream. Oh shush! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!)

At the time, I would imagine Sun’s mom was heard to have said “I’m not made of money, and you’re not a leprechaun, so choose: DVD player or cell phone?” Since Sun’s most favoritest wrestler in the whole world never made it to professional-grade DVD, why bother spending money on a DVD player?

 But yeah, the tape is what’s important, the VCR is just there to play it.
I kinda assumed it was Akira Superstar, she seemed proud when she told the group that who she trained under.
That is a great guess, Rorschach! Â Your attention to detail is going to pay off in the middle of this chapter.
What is the TV and DVD standard player format?
It’d be standard, NTSC. Region 1, I believe.
