Page 413 – Tag Team Of The Year
Another marquee matchup at the PPV is going to be the Catgirls (Snowkitten and Rose) against the champions, Black and Blue. The Catgirls aren’t letting an opportunity pass them by to call out the champs, especially since the champs were the odds-on favorites to win this award. There’s a good chance that the York Sisters and Towers of Terror will be showing up at the PPV as well. 😉 In case anyone is wondering about Vanessa Hoiday and Brandy Brandt, Vanessa dresses up according to the next upcoming holiday and Brandy is a cowgirl.
Wizard World Chicago!
This Thursday thru Sunday afternoon, I’ll be attending Wizard World Chicago! I can be found in Artist Alley sharing booth 3116 with Trevor Mueller. I’ll have the Rival Angels graphic novels at a discount, sketchbooks as well as prints and commissions. You can also get this same graphic novel deal online!

The next award is going to be for Best Finishing Move and I don’t think anyone will be surprised by the nominees, though that doesn’t mean that the nominees themselves won’t be taken by surprise. 😉

Woo for the Catgirls, but I think they just got a BIG bullseye on them now for Black and Blue to come at. But well deserved Snow and Ryoko.
Well when you are number one people tend to gun for you. So I’m thinking if Black and Blue loses maybe I’ll break out my whip and give them a few lashes before tieing them up and leaving them whimpering in the ring wanting more.

best finishers, hmm judging by the preview i’m thinking one BFF is nominated and the other isn’t. Chloe’s kendo stick- wait you mean that’s not Chloe’s finisher ;P is it bad i’m drawing a blank here? um After School Special? Kat’s powerbomb? Brenda’s finisher which i can’t think of right now for the life of me. yup not doing so well on my guesses for this one i think.

Hey MGC! Josie is on the left. No, wait! she’s on the right. Wait…! lol Brandy is similar in the face but not body type, plus Brandy has a nose stud. Luna is a zombie and therefore, immortal. 😛 There are two awards for the girls, but I wanted to show some symbolism with the Catgirls. ‘Halves of a whole, but double the trouble.’

jpiv, you are right with the temperment of the tag team champs. No worries about Chloe’s finisher, we’ve only ever seen it on the cover of the Rival Angels sketchbook, the Sweet Agony. Kat’s finisher is in there too, the KATASTROPHE but you’ll have to wait and see who and what else gets nominated. 😉 Heh, funny you should bring up Brooke and Brenda…

I guess. We haven’t seen too many tag team matches, at least not as far as I remember (I count two, and one ended with a disqualification), and definitely with none of these teams but the York Sisters. Makes it kinda hard to tell who besides The Towers of Terror and the York Sisters are supposed to be heels or tweeners, you know? For all I know, all factions are neutral or evil, and all tag teams are good or neutral.
Edit: With none of these teams but the Towers of Terror of the York Sisters. It was the match with Sabrina and Brooke vs. Zombie Luna and Lover Lola on or around Halloween, and that was the one that ended in disqualification. Yeah…

-Be careful. This is getting into Loads and Loads of Characters territory here. Since this webcomic kind of resembles Bleach in that regard, it’s going to be a tough road having to establish all those characters and make them a threat while keeping the focus on UltraCena, the Dragon, the only wrestler in the group, and Aphrodite and make each of them a threat. Hey, it’s just like managing a wrestling fed, only the wrestlers won’t kick your butt for not pushing them.
-All this talk about tag teams has me wondering: Who’s the Ricky Morton of each group?
Black & Blue: April Black. The smaller wrestler always takes the most punishment in a tag team.
The York Sisters: Don’t need one; they have the power of the switcheroo. If they had one, it would be the one who’s going to turn face.
Holiday/Brandt: Vanessa Holiday; see Black and Blue.
Towers of Terror: Lover Luna. It helps to be the taller, slower one who no-sells everything.
The CatIgirls (LOL): Um…uh…er…hm.

Got it! By default, Rose Ryoko should be the Ricky Morton of the team. However, put them on separate teams with any other wrestler and they will both have to struggle for the hot tag. Since the Cat1girls don’t have twin powers or are big and strong, they have to use “sound tag team strategy”, which is only for heels. Therefore, the Cat!girl who is in the ring when the opponent starts to lay in the big offense is the Ricky Morton for that match, which means it could be both of them.
So they’re the Motor City Machine Guns, only with a slower pace…and they rep Akihabara. Good lord, they’re secret otaku fangirls!
It be good to see more team action. Maybe this award issue will spark more tag matches in future stories, hah? Looking forward to next page, Bossman.

Tarrasque, the many purposes of the Rumble Awards is to shine a spotlight on other non-Upstart happenings in Rival Angels like the big title match between Black and Blue and the Catgirls.

Hey JSN! Yeah, Rival Angels is an ensemble cast with the main focus on the Upstart girls. The Rock N Roll Express comparison is good but can you really apply it to heel teams considering the RnR were never heels? I mean, at least for the most part, they were always babyfaces. Part of being babyfaces is selling what the dastardly heels are doing so I can’t imagine it would work for any of the heel teams unless it was heel vs heel.
DynaMo, I think we’ll see some more tag action in the second season of Rival Angels. Now that we’re getting to know some of the individual personalities of the principal players, we can then see how they’d work in a team environment.
Think I don’t know that, Boney? I was just making commentary on how an utter lack of knowledge of certain performers at present makes it kind of hard to pick their default types, you know?
