See, there is a fine list of Fighting Anime on Wikipedia, but I’m trying to find out the ones that people liked.
It seems some of the best ‘fighting/game/etc.’ anime/movies are the ones where there is a bigger story at foot (fate of the world type stuff, or avenging your friend who died in a tournament) with fighting/wrestling/etc. as the frame it hangs from. AND, I’m trying to see if there is a legit fighting story that just resolves around the actual fighting. So far, ROCKY is one of the only ones that I think fits and is good, as opposed to the half dozen Van Damme movies, though I will admit to watching and loving them all, but that doesn’t necessarily make them good.
ah didn’t see the fighing specific one. kenichi and Naruto of those are closest
Naruto pros- lots of chars so lots of different fights, manga completed, anime is very long so more time to devote to fights, build to a great war for the fate of the world (where the anime is currently in the middle of), bit of a fight for getting my friend back who turned bad partway through idea.
Naruto cons- LOTS of filler/flashbacks- especially before shippuden, can appear in the middle of a good fight, or before a fight, or after, or in the middle of another flashback…
kenichi pros- more fighting takes place, no flashbacks to speak of, manga completed, guy with no fighting skill learning martial arts to impress the girl (who can beat up most people herself) and prove himself to his masters (including her grandfather humbly known as the invincible superman)- who don’t really know how to train anyone so they have “unique” ways of training (hint all master class fighters are apparently crazy)
kenichi cons- anime only goes through the first major arc/disc one boss fight- ovas do start the second arc but not many of these.
Was Kenichi the one with the grabby grandpa? I have no idea why *that’s* the identifying feature that I recall. 😛
I think that’s ramna 1/2 with the pervy grandfather. kenichi does have one of the masters always trying to get pictures of one of the other masters and the granddaughter though (except when gramps is around that is- even he’s not THAT dedicated) in between reading swimsuit magazines.
I think the masters cover – karate, muay thai, weapons, judo, ju-jisyu and kempo (gramps is just “gramps”) . lots of different styles among the bad guys as well.
