Snowy was looking to squash the beef, but Sun’s not having any of it. Having the resentment might be the little push she needs, or the anchor to drag her down. Or maybe she’ll look to squash things after the match?
NXT
Wow, there were an awful lot of jobber matches on NXT this week. Not really a complaint, just an observation. Emma vs Santana was decidedly one-sided, but after the run of bad luck that Emma’s had for the last 2 years, I’ll definitely give there that. Plus, she really made the most of it and Santana still looked good.
Aries was a nice surprise and any time you see the wicked scowl on William Regal’s face, you know it’s a good reaction.
Obviously, Neville vs Balor was the highlight of the night and I really thought it delivered. Both guys looked crisp and put on a wonderful performance. I don’t think the outcome was ever in question, but what does it say about Neville if he beats Finn for the NXT title? Is it a step backwards?

We tried chanting “Burning Kitten” because we thought that was a cool team name for a fiery redhead and a neko. but they threw us out of the arena for some reason.
Compared to some of the real life women wrestlers of history, Sun and Sabrina been leading charmed lives. It’s really time that Ultradragon is send home bruised and bloody and given a little time to think about the heel roles they’ve chosen to embrace.
You mean they should think about how to cheat better?

yes, them turning into heels has amazed me. Why do so many go down that long dark road? At least I feel good about myself coming into the match having spent the day helping out children in need.
I know they’re part of a heel stable, but I don’t recall when they’ve been particularly heelish. Sun does have an axe to grind.
Only time will tell if they turn into full heels.

Unfortunately for Snowy, Sun seems like her preferred style of anger is “calculated fury.” Sabrina needs to take a few deep breaths, get her head in the game, but Sun, in the state I suspect she’s in, is going to be dangerous.
I suspect Krystin costing them a shot at Rose and changing their match into a somewhat more dangerous one isn’t helping Ultradragon stay calm either. Ugh.
Well Sun has her objective and Sabrina her’s. Now if we can make them fight the wrong person it should keep them off balance.
Sun totally believes in using anger, fury, hate, whatever it takes to achieve. More on that later.
So Sun is a Sith Lord?
The consensus is that Yvonne is the Sith Lord. I guess Sun would be the apprentice then.
1. It would be funny if Brenda tags in and just destroys them and wins the match by herself.
2. I just don’t see Ultradragon getting a 2nd straight tag title opportunity again so quickly after losing the last one.
The team that the fans like get the most shots at anything. Of course management wants that team to struggle to increase the drama and ticket demand so when they win everyone goes wild.
Brenda being an experience heavy weight could take out both of them unless they cheat, then again they are heels so they will.
Then again, I know that. I’ve got their play book.

Btw, on voting. I was looking at the #s. There are comics that update once a week, even some that update less often, that have been rated higher. Don’t forget, you can vote daily technically, even from your phone as well as computer. If we just had 50% more voting, the comic would have cracked the top 100, which is pretty good. If you currently don’t vote, or vote once a week, add one more time, go to once or twice a week. More people find the comic, more votes, more patreon, and maybe get some numbers that justify ad banner revenues. Get revenues up, and perhaps get a 3rd strip a week? Who knows. 🙂
Al, I thought your showing interesting panels from the next strip has been a good voting incentive. Other strips also show slightly more risque pics as voting incentives. Dunno if that would work here, but throwing things out there to get readers to do that horribly hard job of clicking a link.
As for the strip. Like the dialog. Nice and plain spoken by Sun there. It’ll be interesting how they match up against a powerhouse like Brenda, but also whether Brenda and Snow are in sync. A good wrestler doesn’t always make a good tag partner.
Well unless Brenda’s brain turns off we do work together very well. I think far better than Sun and Sabrina when they first started being a team.
As for voting here I do it like a democrat in an election year, voting more than once….

Yeah, I’ve fallen off this month on the Voting Incentives. I know I won’t have time during the Kickstarter to keep up with it, and the results weren’t very encouraging. I totally appreciate everyone who continues to vote and who has voted.
I’ve always loved doing it, seeing it as a win-win, but not so much anymore.

Well, quite a mess. I think Sun will mess up the Catgirl, who will tag in to Brenda, who will mess up Sun, who will tag Sabrina…ah, well.
To bad you never saw me in action before I joined this league. I’ve taken out some real power houses with my unusual style of fighting.

Sometimes the only way to let the animosity go is to just let ’em get it all out of their system. Let ’em punch the rage out, and at the end, the clarity will come with the exhaustion. Facts are facts, The Catgirls set off the fuse by playing dirty and airing Sun’s dirty laundry on national TV. If Snow wants it to be over, she might have to come away from this with a few bruises.
NXT is always a treat to watch. Emma and Dana do a great job making you want to see Asuka kick their nose through to the back of their heads. And it’s always a good sign when the crowds get behind you on your first match, whether or not you win.
The Regal vs Corbin feud is gonna be a good one. Corbin’s sore because while there was no clear winner in that triple threat match, he tapped out making him the clear loser, but he still thinks he deserves the title shot and Regal’s having none of it. Since Regal unfortunately can no longer wrestle, A Double is going to have to be his stand in (But lets face it, who wouldn’t like to see Regal take the brass knuckles to Corbin just once?)
Each week, Elias Samson just seems to be the guy the NXT fans look at and go “Why are they making us watch him?” He just hasn’t clicked and it says something when the best part of the match is Cory Graves’ commentary. I do like seeing Steve Cutler getting a bit more light with the jacket and the announcers putting him over a bit.
Balor vs Neville is a main event match in any company in the world. Always good to see the WWE let him cut loose and put on the matches we all know is capable of. Win or lose, it was an incredible match, and as one article I read said “It was great to see him wrestle for more than two minutes at a time in a six man tag”. They’re teasing the Bullet Club, which makes me wonder just when this year they’ll be debuting Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows (in whatever names WWE gives them)
Wow…if that is what you consider dirty then you haven’t been watching what the teams do out here. That was more like a smug compared to the dirty trick’s we’ve seen.
To bad Albone does have room for the banter that I do in matches.

I’ve always loved Emma since her SHIMMER days as Tenille. Dana’s okay. I think she needs a little more work.
Regal lending Austin the knucks once for the fight with Corbin would be pretty amazing. Especially after Corbin showed laser like accuracy with that shirt to Regal’s face. lol

LOL @ time in NXT vs being in a RAW 6-man match. I was discussing this before but while it would seem being giving more time on NXT would be better than 2 minutes on RAW, the reality is that the pay is better, and the whole time you’re in NXT, you’re hoping to move up to RAW. I would love to see if the Ascension, Bo or even Nevill have to say about that.

Here’s a theory on Elias Samson: He’s doing exactly what they want him to do.
NXT crowds are interesting creatures. Getting them to boo you is not an easy feat. By the end of his run, Tyler Breeze was getting massive “Breeze is gorgeous” chants. Samoa Joe is cheered. Owens was cheered unless he was actively s****ing on the crowd or injuring Sami Zayn. Even those further down the card like Tye Dillinger get cheers and chants. If you want to get booed, you’ve got to take it to a different level.
But who gets the most heat of any act at NXT? Eva Marie. The Full Sail crowd absolutely loathes her. Not because of heel activities, but just because they object to the route her career has taken. (Btw boys, I’m not saying she’s a good wrestler, she’s not, but hating her quite as MUCH as some of you do is a bit overblown. If you never want to see her again, go quiet. Crickets in her matches is bad. Boos? Those they can work with.)
I think Elias Samson is an experiment in metabooking. He’s given what seems like a perfectly normal wrestling gimmick, “The Drifter”, and then he plays to that gimmick…in a completely uninteresting matter. He wrestles well enough, but again, not with any great deal of excitement. Little flash, and without the sort of cruelty and meanness that makes you feel bad for his opponent. Even the heel commentator is crapping on him. And they have him on seemingly every week.
Now he’s getting booed. A lot. Experiment: Successful.
That is crazy interesting. A very solid theory, I might add. That’s certainly true about the booing thing with NXT. I got no holes in that. Quick sidebar, when Elias Samson comes on, I want to fast forward the match and if the Network didn’t get so buggy about my fast forwarding, I’d do it. but that’s my impatience for the gimmick, heel commentator included, more than the theory.
I can certainly agree with you on that. I’ve said it before that the NXT crowd is a lot like a Japanese wrestling audience, in that they have a lot of respect for the wrestlers, heel or face, because it seems as though they respect all the time and effort the competitors put in to put on the shows (which is one of the reasons I think Eva Marie gets so much hatred. They feel like she’s getting too much of a spotlight and hasn’t put in as much work in the Indies and the WWE Performance center as the other women), it’s become her gimmick and she’s owned it. I can most certainly respect that.
With Samson, I think he gets a lot of his boos because people just don’t understand what he’s supposed to be. I remember him paying his dues jobbing in tag matches with a fellow named Mike Rallis, then I believe he lost to Bull Dempsy on the undercard of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn. Fast forward a couple months to NXT TakeOver: London, same match, Sampson vs Dempsy on the undercard, now Sampson wins. We watch the vignettes of him playing the guitar and singing about “What NXT needs is what I am”. It’s been going on for a couple months now, and no one knows what he is. I mean, for some people, that mysterious aura works (Like Bray Wyatt). But with Sampson, it just confuses people, and people don’t like being confused for so long.
They could’ve apologize later when Sun was cooling off her temper, but it’s either too late or too soon for apologizes. This is going to be one intense tag team match up for Sabrina and Sun.
Yes it will be a very interesting match. But if you look at my ears when I tried to talk to Sun you can see I was being honest with her. When she rejected the ears popped back up and I was combat ready.
I’m using the ears to help convey emotion. 😀
Oh, it’s gonna take more than an apology. Fact is, it shouldn’t have been aired in the first place, thus a beating is in order. My kind of retribution. ;p
I did like the way Albone had so many of the audience members wearing Cat Ears. My fan base still remains loyal.
To get the full feel of any match with me I do a lot of banter and song clips as i fight. It drives my opponents crazy and distracts them. I think in the last frame I would pop in, “The sun will come out tomorrow….” Kind of fits to bad tomorrow never comes.
Hah. I read this and thought ‘Oh, neat. I didn’t notice that. How cool.’ Then I went back to the panels to look and realize I’ve been hooked and not by a double top wrist lock.

re:NXT Emma always does decent matches and Santana is a great addition ot NXT’s roster. I’m kind of sorry for the political atmosphere in prowrestling this decade in that once a match is held it seems like the feud is over. It’s like “one and done”. What happened to the series of matches feuds used to produce? I’d like to see a couple more Emma vs Asuka as I thought Takeover London was a great match that needs several sequels.
I hear you on the number of times they fight per feud, but remember that they probably fight 2-3 times more during house shows and tours so they might be ready to move on too. I do agree that we need at least a best of 3 series.

Definitely more Emma. I tried to keep track of Asuka in NXT since it is MrsCharlie’s all time favorite character. I comb at least five pro wrestling websites at work. As far as I know that was their first actual match. Besides an aborted Dana Brooke re-match they never fought. It was like a parade of jobbers up until they met each other. I could be wrong but I get a lot of time to read the internet.
Good news and bad news. There WAS an Asuka vs Emma match, it was held last night(?) and resulted in Emma getting a ‘stinger’.

As far as Asuka goes, loved her since her days as Kana. A talented wrestler who is quite the personality when given a chance to show it.
I still slip up sometimes and call her Kana (or her finisher the Kana-Lock).
Don’t blame you. It took me a while to get used to the name change given she was Kana for the vast majority of her career. Same with Hideo Itami; too used to referring to him as KENTA, and it was weird not to see him use the GTS.
DAMN. Sun’s got some QUADS on her. o_O

NXT is literally the only thing that tempts me about the wwe network but I refuse to give in just for that. and no the PPV thing is useless in my case because I work every sunday night so i’d miss them anyway.

NXT tempted me for a month. The free trial. But after that I got over it and cancelled. It wasn’t enough for the subscription to justify it.

Well, the thing about the PPVs is, once they’re aired, the WWE Network keeps them like on demand. So you can watch them any time, as well as any other WWF/WWE PPV going all the way back to the first WrestleMania, then they also have a ton of WCW and ECW PPVs as well. Kind of something for everyone
i’m one of those bad types who immediately run to the results sections of events to find out who won- i’d never make it through a replay 🙂
it’s also why I can’t record any sporting events either. “what great super bowl game? who won? k don’t need to watch now.”

I would get the WWE network just for NXT and happily pay the $9.99. The PPV’s are icing on the cake.
Hulu does air NXT, at least they used to, but they would occasionally cut matches. !!
Maybe if NXT doubled their roster I would re-subscribe. I can understand not wanting a huge roster on your “farm team”. But NXT is really turning into a brand of it’s own and deserves a deeper field.
I don’t know that a deeper roster is what they need. They only have one, 1-hour show a week and they’re not *prone* to sticking the under-talent in 6 and 8 man tags.

I don’t know if I’ve missed this or not but have any of the Catgirls tried to speak to Sun outside of the ring, away from the crowds and cameras to apologize?
Ah, you have not missed it because it didn’t happen. You could say it was a self-fulfilling prophecy in that the Catgirls knew that Sun would be hostile towards an apology, whether it was better timed or not.
Please pay appropriate respects to our stars in wrestling who have been injured. All of them face life changing injury as a risk to entertain us.
